KOURA

Crete is known for its traditions. Throughout the island, but also in our place Kissamos, there is a tradition called "koura" (shearing).

THE TRADITION

It is an old custom, a great celebration inextricably linked to the livestock lifestyle, and is characterized as one of the most impressive celebrations that take place every year in June, where every farmer invites friends and relatives to help him in this difficult task and celebrating it with a feast.

ORIGIN

"Koura" contributes decisively to the fellowship and friendship between the villagers. These relationships, which do not go beyond the expectation of financial exchanges, are common in Crete and bind people together. However, it is still considered a ritual process and is well kept.
